SLIS Journal Club
The goal of the SLIS Journal Club is to help the OU SLIS community stay current in the fast changing LIS/KM research world.
For the Spring 2008 semester, the group will gather roughly every other Wednesday to meet and talk about recent LIS and KM research articles of interest to the members.
Any attendee may present an article it to the group. Presentations are informal, but should include the article's journal, title, background, methodology, and conclusions. Generally presentations should last between 3-5 minutes. Following the presentation, the group may discuss the possible implications of the research or drawbacks of the researcher's methodology.
The SLIS Journal Club meeting will last approximately one hour and 4-5 papers will be discussed per meeting.
While the universe of LIS and KM journals are open, if you are looking for an article, journals of interest may include:
- Journal of Academic Librarianship
- Journal of Information Science
- Journal of Librarianship and Information Science
- Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology
- Libraries and Culture
- Library and Information Research
- Library Quarterly
Browse the table of contents of a journal and pick an article to read that interests you.
It is not a requirement that an entire journal (or even a single article) be read in order to attend or participate. The group's focus is simply a supplement to help inform the SLIS community of current research angles and articles.
The scheduled meetings for Spring 2008 are:
- Wednesday February 6, 2008
- Wednesday February 20, 2008
- Wednesday March 5, 2008
- Wednesday March 26, 2008
- Wednesday April 9, 2008
Meetings will be held in Bizzell Library Room 104 and videoconferenced with Schusterman Center Room 3104 at 7:15pm following the close of Dr. Wallace's LIS/KM 5713 Research Methods course.
The SLIS Journal Club is sponsored by the School of Library and Information Studies and organized by OLISSA. For additional information, please contact the OLISSA officers.
